It's Club 2Gethr's "Livin' The Dream" Video ... Starring Nicki French!

Posted on 05:36 by Unknown
If you're a casual pop music observer and have been wondering what producer Mike Stock and British songstress Nicki French have been up to since they paired up nearly 20 years ago for their globally successful cover of "Total Eclipse Of The Heart," then wonder no more!

Stock's new project, Club 2Gethr — a themed teen trio akin to Fast Food Rockers, 10 years later (this time it's all about camping, kiddies) — just premiered their music video for "Livin' The Dream." And Nicki plays their mom.

Enjoy. And if you're like me, you'll be wondering which of those two young ladies ended up with the hot dog.

"Livin' The Dream" is on iTunes for pre-order.

'The Love This Collection, Volume 1' Added To iTunes

Posted on 06:49 by Unknown
Here in the States, the only taste we got of the output UK producers Mike Stock and Matt Aitken churned out in the 1990s, post-Stock Aitken Waterman, on their Love This label was Nicki French's cover of "Total Eclipse Of The Heart," which made it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in summer 1995.

If memory serves correct, there were CD single releases for a few other gems from the Love This catalog that year on these shores: Newton's "Sky High," DJ Scott & Lorna B's "Do You Wanna Party" and Tatjana's "Santa Maria." And there was also, of course, Nicki French's full album, Secrets.

But hunting down and collecting the imports of Stock & Aitken's output between 1994 and 1997 filled a lot of time during my college years, and really brought about my intro to Internet message boards and the online pop music fan community in general. It's also what forged the friendship between my Chart Rigger sidekick Moogaboo and I, after we met at a party and talked for hours about that cover of "Total Eclipse" and old SAW music.

Anyway, Mike Stock has remastered many of his Love This productions — those that saw the light of day and ones that were shelved — and the first volume of The Love This Collection was added to iTunes (yes, even in the US) today.

The tracklist, which was modified a bit at the last minute from the original song lineup, is below:

Heidi Montag Recording With Mike Stock?

Posted on 06:26 by Unknown
Dear God, how did I miss this? From the Daily Star earlier this month:
Heidi, 26, said last night that she had already met music svengali Mike Stock in a bid to make her dream come true.

And she is planning to cash in on her Celebrity Big Brother fame by releasing a single within weeks.

Heidi told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’ve been talking to Mike about the kind of track we’re going to do and he’s writing something for me at the moment.

“A lot of my UK fans say they love my music and are expecting more. So I’d love to be able to give that to them.”
Normally I would say this sounds like straight-up bullshit (remember when Paris Hilton was supposedly recording with Pete Waterman?), but I looked back through Mike Stock's tweets and he's re-tweeted a few of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's ramblings.

Adele might as well hang up her giant wig and go sit in the corner. Music: officially saved.

Posted on 19:33 by Unknown
No, the world didn't end on Friday, December 21, 2012. The delayed PWL Hit Factory Live concert at London's O2 Arena went down instead, and featured performances by, well, everybody listed below — basically all the big artists associated with Pete Waterman from the mid-'80s to the late-'90s.

And because I got bored for 40 minutes this evening, I decided to round up as many of the videos that made their way onto YouTube as I could find. Enjoy yourself!

2 Unlimited — "Get Ready For This"

Lonnie Gordon — "Happening All Over Again"

Hazell Dean — "Who's Leaving Who"

PWL Hit Factory Live Gig In London Canceled: They Say It's Gonna Rain

Posted on 12:26 by Unknown
Yesterday Kylie Minogue tweeted the above pic of herself while rehearsing with Jason Donovan for their PWL Hit Factory Live reunion, but this morning brought news that the entire fest had to be called off due weather conditions (and last weekend's Wireless Festival) making the Hyde Park  grounds in London unsafe.

Pete Waterman told the BBC the following:
"People have come from all over the world to make this happen. We're trying to work out what we can do. Police, parks and safety people have said it's completely unsafe at the moment. We saw the damage caused by the Wireless festival at the weekend, but we can't get lorries on to the site to dump bark and mulch on the ground. What can I say? We've had exceptional weather. If it's not safe, it's not safe and you can't control that."
As expected, the mood on the official PWL Facebook page of those who planned to attend the event reflects disappointment.

Hazell Dean, who was due to perform at Hit Factory Live — and who recorded the ironically-titled tune "They Say It's Gonna Rain" — passed this message along:
"Dear All. As you can imagine I am absolutely devastated.
I arrived for rehearsals earlier and was told the news by the guys from Dead Or Alive.
I don't know what else to say, as I only know as much as you which is what is reported on the BBC News website.
I'm sure PWL and Live Nation will make and announcement as soon as they can.
Hopefully with a rescheduled date.
Iam as gutted as you guys.

Kylie Minogue Covers 'Glamour' UK, Talks About PWL Days

Posted on 00:00 by Unknown
My friend/travel companion AGirlAndHerCity picked up a copy of the July issue of Glamour UK at Heathrow — the one with Kylie Minogue on the cover, where she talks about performing at the upcoming Hit Factory Live fest — and she gave it to me upon meeting up in Paris yesterday.

Here's an excerpt:
"I can't divulge...oh, I'll tell you," she blurts. "At the PWL Hyde Park gig...I'm going to sing 'Especially For You' with Jason Donovan. I don't think we'll even need to sing it; I'm sure the audience all went through the Neighbours wedding; it's going to bring the house down! Even though it's outdoors..."

...She is, let's face it, too good, too big and too contemporary to headline Pete Waterman's nostalgia-led pop-fest, but, she notes, "I would like to thank him in some way."

...Back in1997, I saw the singer's crystal-blue eyes brim with tears. Her "Indie Kylie" phase was fraught with nerves and confusion: while her then-collaborators, the Manic Street Preachers and Nick Cave, had "embraced [her] past," she herself had not, always feeling "creatively knee-deep in concrete" at Pete Waterman's perky Hit Factory. This year, by contrast, her Anti Tour celebrated those very days...

"It was torturous inside me," she says, of her '97 self. "I just thought, 'I can't be that person, she's not accepted, she's so uncool,' and it transpires I was none of those things. The coolest people were just, 'No, we love those songs, we love you from that time!' But I had to go through my own process to embrace it."

'Pete Waterman Presents The Hit Factory': Tracklisting

Posted on 17:57 by Unknown
The Facebook page for that Pete Waterman Presents The Hit Factory compilation (out July 9) finally got 1,000 likes, and the tracklist was posted yesterday. If you already own the 2005 Stock Aitken Waterman Gold set, this three-disc package is worth it for the third CD only.

I will say that it's bizarre to include Steps' "Heartbeat". True, it went to #1 as a double A-side with "Tragedy," but the latter proved to be the far more popular of the two, and "One For Sorry" is surely the band's other widely-recognized signature song, no?

Another random choice: Loveland's "Let The Music (Lift You Up)." Not complaining, though. Loveland's entire 1995 The Wonder Of Love LP is pretty spectacular.

And bravo for the remastered "Looking Good Diving" and "Heartache." Pity about no Donna Summer, however.

Full tracklisting:

CD 1
1. Mel & Kim – Respectable

Kylie Minogue To Duet (Not Do It) With Jason Donovan

Posted on 05:54 by Unknown
No one will be surprised to find that "very special duet 23 years in the making" set to happen at the PWL Hit Factory Live fest in London's Hyde Park on July 11 is going to be Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan doing "Especially For You." According to the grapevine that is PopJustice via Contactmusic via Glamour magazine, Kylie confirmed she'll be taking the stage with her old Neighbours mate.

Meanwhile, the above box set, Pete Waterman Presents The Hit Factory: The Soundtrack To A Generation, is being released on July 9. The full tracklist isn't being released until this Facebook page gets 1000 "likes" or something (it's currently up to 815), but judging by the cover art, it's going to be very similar to the three-disc Stock Aitken Waterman Gold compilation from 2005. Which, of course, was ages ago, so who even remembers that, right?

Steps Promote Hit Factory Live Concert At PWL Studios With Pete Waterman

Posted on 14:50 by Unknown
Steps update #1: That Hit Factory Live concert featuring all the PWL acts you can shake a stick is going full-steam ahead. Here's a video of Steps and Pete Waterman doing a press conference and various promo about it:

Steps update #2: To tie in with the band's tour next month, Sky Living will air a whole new series of Steps Reunion titled, aptly enough Steps Reunion: The Ultimate Tour. This will later be followed by Steps Reunion: The Next Step.

Steps update #3: Still no word on new music from the band. And I'll no longer be going to their gig in London on April 19, due to a scheduling conflict. Sigh. But I will be going to Paris in June, so there is that.

There is also mention of a "very special duet 23 years in the making." Hmmmm. Kylie Minogue and Jason's "Especially For You" was released 23 years ago, were it not?

Kylie Minogue's Anti Tour Clips From Melbourne Are Effing Amazing

Posted on 14:32 by Unknown
Two years ago I interviewed Kylie Minogue for Instinct, and she told me this: "I can totally see the day when I do a performance of all my unreleased songs in a very small club for a limited run, and perhaps that would be recorded."

Well, lo and behold, that day has come. Kylie kicked off her Anti Tour in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia, today, and the setlist looks absolutely amazing. I'm re-posting it below, courtesy of ONTD.

Here's a clip of Kylie, who looks absolutely stunning in her cute jean shorts and Marilyn Monroe tee, doing the old-school Stock Aitken Waterman jams "Made In Heaven" and "Always Find The Time" (I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DID THESE!!!), plus B-sides "Cherry Bomb" and "BPM," and the unreleased '90s tune "You're The One".

I'm also not over the fact that, according to the setlist below, she does "Things Can Only Get Better"!

Anti Tour Setlist

1. Magnetic Electric (X bonus track)
2. Made in Heaven ("Je Ne Se Pourqois" b-side)
3. Cherry Bomb ("Wow" b-side)
4. BPM ("I Believe in You" b-side)
5. Mighty Rivers (Aphrodite bonus track)
6. Over Dreaming (Over You) (Enjoy Yourself album track)
7. Always Find the Time (Rhythm of Love album track)
8. You're The One (unreleased track from Impossible Princess)
9. Tightrope ("In Your Eyes" b-side)
10. Paper Dolls ("Spinning Around" b-side)
11. Stars (X album track)
12. Drunk (Impossible Princess album track)
13. Say Hey (Impossible Princess album track)
14. Too Much (Aphrodite album track)
15. Bittersweet Goodbye (Light Years album track)
16. Disco Down (Light Years album track)
17. I Don't Need Anyone (Impossible Princess album track)
18. Got to Be Certain (Kylie single)
19. Things Can Only Get Better (Rhythm of Love album track)
20. That's Why They Write Love Songs (KylieX2008 track)
21. Tears On My Pillow (Enjoy Yourself single)
